Hand-Colored Postcard of the Rive

Hand-Colored Postcard of the Rive
The framing, taken from the sea or from a boat a short distance offshore, shows the front of the neoclassical buildings overlooking the Rive, with red roofs and light facades. In the foreground, a Latin-sail boat glides by with its characteristic pink sail, typical coloring of hand-retouched postcards from the early twentieth century; around it, sailing ships and small steamers are moored along the piers. On the left, the monumental buildings of the Riva Tre Novembre area can be recognized and, further back, the profile of the San Giusto hill that closes the scene. The molo Giuseppino protrudes into the water like a tongue of stone, a landing and strolling point, with boats maneuvering in the waters of the Bacino San Giorgio.
