Trieste–Opicina electric railway
Vintage postcard of the famous Trieste–Opicina electric railway, opened in 1902 to connect the city with the Karst plateau. The tram climbs the route among villas and dry-stone walls, with the hillside dotted with houses and a small tower in the background. With its rack-and-funicular section, the line was a pioneering feat of engineering and remains a symbol of Trieste to this day.
