Montuzza Tunnel (Galleria di Montuzza)
Vintage postcard showing the front view of the Galleria di Montuzza tunnel entrance in Trieste, inaugurated in 1907 (the date MCMVII is carved on the stone arch). The monumental portal, hewn in exposed stone, is flanked by two imposing symmetrical staircases climbing toward the top of the hill, while small figures animate the access road. On the left, the facade of a commercial building with a sign for wines and tonics offers a glimpse of everyday life in early-twentieth-century Trieste.
