The old town hall in Piazza Unità d'Italia, Trieste
Historic photo of Piazza Unità d'Italia (Unity of Italy Square) in Trieste: at left the Fountain of the Four Continents, and at center the old town hall with its loggia and large clock. The facade with geometric patterns and the arched passage show the building before the 1873–75 makeover by architect Giuseppe Bruni, which created the municipal palace known today. Passers-by and shop awnings add a glimpse of everyday city life in the late 19th century.
