Historical Map of Trieste End of the Nineteenth Century
This is a historical map of Trieste dating back to the end of the nineteenth century. The map, printed in German (“TRIEST” in the top left), shows the urban center of Trieste and its port in detail, highlighting the main streets, squares, buildings, and infrastructure of the era.
To the left there is a legend (“Zahlenerklärung”) that identifies the main points of interest numbered on the map, such as the Borsa, the Hotel de la Ville, the Cattedrale di San Giusto, the Sinagoga, the Chiesa di San Nicolò, and the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore. Also highlighted are the port structures such as the Molo I and the Molo III, the Arsenale, the Stazione, and the historical districts.
The map clearly shows the urban fabric of the era, with the port as the city's hub and the dense network of streets in the historic center. Many of the main city arteries and districts still characteristic of Trieste today are recognizable. The drawing, with its detailed graphics and names in German, reflects the Asburgo period when Trieste was one of the main ports of the Impero Austro-Ungarico.
