New Train Station of the Ferrovie dello Stato
This historical photograph depicts the Nuova Stazione delle Ferrovie dello Stato of Trieste in 1910, an imposing building in Art Nouveau architecture just completed. The period image shows the majestic facade of the station with its raised central body and side wings, while the surrounding area appears still in the phase of arrangement, with unpaved ground and some works in progress. Symbol of progress and the importance of Trieste as a railway hub of the Austro-Hungarian Impero, the station represents a significant architectural element that has marked the urban development of the city.
