Piazza Dalmazia and the Hotel Balkan (Narodni Dom)
Historic photo of Trieste: view of Piazza della Caserma, today Piazza Dalmazia. The Hotel Balkan/Narodni Dom by architect Max Fabiani dominates the scene, its elegant facade facing the square. In the foreground stands the large covered fountain; around it a few passers-by, a horse-drawn cart and tram tracks. The fountain would be demolished in the 1920s to make way for the Saima‑Arrigoni building, which later hid this facade on Piazza Dalmazia.

Year: 1920
