Piazza Giuseppina

This extraordinary historical photograph immortalizes Piazza Giuseppina (today Piazza Venezia) in Trieste in the second half of the nineteenth century. In the foreground, the statue of Massimiliano d’Austria is recognizable, while in the background the ancient port dominates the scene, crowded with dozens of sailing ships and moored sailing vessels and by the lively markets that animated the port area.
