Opicina Tramway, electric tram on the rack railway section
A vintage postcard shows the Opicina tramway along its rack railway section, with the distinctive toothed rail clearly visible in the middle of the track. An electric tramcar descends towards the city between stone walls and the houses of the Scorcola hillside, while a man watches from the trackside. The line, opened in 1902, climbed the steep gradient using a rack system, replaced in 1928 by the funicular section still in use today. The original caption "Trieste Elettrovia Trieste-Opcina" records the name used in the early years of operation.

Year: 1905
