Foundation and Early Years
The Distilleria a vapore Camis & Stock was founded in 1884 in Trieste by Lionello Stock and Carlo Camis. Initially located in the Barcola district, this distillery became a significant reference point for the production of liquors in Europe.
Main Product
Its main product was the "Medicinal" Cognac, whose name reflected the health benefits attributed to it, as indicated in the Codex Alimentarius Austriacus of the time[1][6].
Influence of Peronospora
The founding of the distillery was influenced by the peronospora that devastated the vineyards in France, leading to a shortage of grapes for the production of cognac. Lionello Stock decided to seize this opportunity and produce Dalmatian wines locally, highly appreciated by the French for cognac production[6].
Relocations and Growth
In 1929, the distillery was moved to Roiano, where it remained until the transfer to the industrial area[2]. In the 1920s, Stock became one of the largest companies of its kind in Europe[3].
Recent Evolution
Recent history has seen the evolution of the company into the Stock Spirits Group, which is now one of the leading companies in the spirits sector in Europe, headquartered in Warsaw and controlled by CVC Capital Partners[7].
